Almost everyone who comes to see me for anxiety has already tried to “just relax.” They’ve done the breathing exercises, the apps, the long walks. Sometimes those things help for an hour. They rarely help for good — because anxiety was never the problem to begin with. It’s a signal.

When we treat anxiety like static to tune out, we miss what it’s actually pointing to: an old fear that hasn’t been resolved, a boundary that isn’t being honored, a version of yourself that learned, a long time ago, that vigilance kept you safe. Symptom management can quiet the noise for a while. It can’t answer the question the anxiety is actually asking.

Anxiety isn’t a glitch to override. It’s a signal worth understanding, not a symptom to outrun.

Start with curiosity, not control

Depth-oriented work asks a different question than most anxiety management does. Instead of “how do I make this stop,” we ask “what is this protecting me from, and is that protection still needed?” That shift — from control to curiosity — is often where the real relief begins.

This doesn’t mean the discomfort disappears overnight. It means you stop fighting your own nervous system, and start working with it. Over time, the anxiety that once ran the show becomes something you can recognize, understand, and eventually hold with much more ease.

If this feels familiar

You don’t have to figure out where it comes from on your own. That’s the work we do together — slowly, carefully, at a pace that respects what you’ve been carrying.
